Italy’s bill on joint custody of children: compulsory mediation for high conflict couples

The Bill just introduced in the Senate by 5-Star and League coalition government states that couples with minor children must be, by law, followed by a family mediator. The legislative proposal introduces and regulates this professional figure by establishing the roles and responsibilities of the mediator who supports the couple during the difficult period of separation.

The bill sets out the maximum duration of the mediation process to six months and hourly fees for mediation meetings established by the Ministry of Justice.
